Introduction

Transitioning to adulthood. Independence and employment. Introduction. Over the years, we have frequently heard from those who are told by psychologists that they will never have a job, never go to college, and probably live at home for the rest of their lives. This book contains the stories of those who didn't listen to that prediction.

Making the shift from living at home to being on one's own can be a difficult process, but it can be done. In part 1 of this book are the stories and experiences of people on the spectrum who have successfully made or are making the transition to adulthood. Part 2 of this book focuses on the personal accounts of those on the spectrum who have become or are on the journey to becoming self-sufficient and successful in the working world.

These stories cover a diverse group of people with their own individual takes on finding a career. We hope that this book will serve to inspire those looking to live independently and successfully and encourage those who don't believe they can. At Asperger Experts, we believe in learning directly from those who have experienced it.

When it comes to Asperger's and autism, there is a big difference between lived knowledge and that which is found in a book. Thus, we are bringing you those experiences, mistakes, lessons, and stories of people on the spectrum so you can gain some new insight, a deeper perspective, and the hope that things will turn out all right. Also, many thanks to Virgil and Leonard who made the sharing of these stories possible. Danny Raede and the AE Team.
