Introduction

Struggling to Connect-- Fatherhood with my Asperger's Child. Introduction. In our work here at Asperger Experts, we hear from moms every day. They write in and tell us their concerns, ask for advice, and connect with each other on our website. They form support groups and get coffee together. They commiserate and share their experiences.

No such support is offered for dads. When we talk to fathers, they are often feeling confused, frustrated, and discouraged. I remember when I was growing up, after being diagnosed with Asperger's at age 12, my father and I struggled to connect for a while. But once we found common interests, we formed a strong bond that lasts to this day. But this book isn't about me.

Here at Asperger Experts, we believe in learning directly from those who have experienced it because, as I'm sure you are all aware of by now, there is a big difference between lived knowledge and book knowledge when it comes to Asperger's and autism. So we're bringing the experiences, mistakes, lessons, and stories of fellow fathers who have kids on the spectrum to you so you can hopefully gain some new insight, a deeper perspective, and some hope that things will turn out all right.
